A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Victoria Nolan, D.C., was celebrated January 10, 2018, at DePaul House Chapel in Albany, N.Y. Burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. Sister Victoria died January 7, 2018, at St. Louise House in Albany. She was 98 years of age and 80 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity.
Born in Albany on April 22, 1919, Sister Victoria was one of three children born to John and Agnes (Kent) Nolan. Sister Victoria joined the Community of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in December 1937.
Sister Victoria graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy High School in Albany, N.Y. She furthered her education in Nursing at The Catholic University, Washington, D.C., where she completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1951. Sister earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing Education in 1957; and in 1984, Sister Victoria became a Certified Chaplain through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Early in her ministry, Sister Victoria served in Primary Care Education at St. Martin’s School, Baltimore, Md., (1939 to 1942). After that she served in the following missions: Our Lady of Lourdes School, Utica, N.Y., (1942 to 1948); Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C., (1948 to 1951); St. Mary’s Hospital, Saginaw, Mich., (1951 to 1952); again at Providence Hospital, Washington, D.C., ( 1952); Seton Institute, Baltimore, Md., (1952 to 1954); St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Md., (1954 to 1962); Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Fla., (1962 to 1963); St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, N.Y., (1963 to 1969); DePaul Provincial House, Jamaica, N.Y., (1969 to 1970); St. John Parish Center, Utica, N.Y.,(1970 to 1973; during which time she served as the Local Community Superior); St. Joseph Hall, Philadelphia, Penn.,(1973 to 1979); Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y., (1979 to 1992); and St. Vincent’s Residence, Bridgeport, Conn., (1992 to 2009).
In May 2009, Sister joined the Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House, Albany, where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Victoria was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John Nolan and Arthur Nolan. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Nolan (Janice); a niece, Dara Storm; a nephew, Douglas Nolan; a great-nephew, Austin Nolan; first cousins, Marie Neidl and Sister Ellen Boyle; and cousins, Mary and Jim Nolan.
