Sister Doris Brancato died at Seton Residence on December 1, 2023. Sister was born on January 9, 1932, in Dallas and was one of three children of Matthew and Katherine (Todaro) Brancato. She graduated from Carrollton High School in Dallas in 1949 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis in 1953.
Sister Doris earned her B.S. in Nursing from Saint Louis University in St. Louis in 1953 and her M.S. in Medical Surgical Nursing from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, in 1970. She served in healthcare as Director of Nursing Services at St. Margaret Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama; Nursing Supervisor at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas, St. Joseph Hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri and St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama; Staff Nurse at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis; Director of Education at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas and DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, Missouri; Education Coordinator at DePaul Hospital and DePaul Health Center; Nursing Instructor and Education Coordinator at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Sister also served as a Hostess at Immaculate Hall Residence in Emmitsburg, Maryland; assisted the homeless at Ozanam Inn in New Orleans; and served as Manager of St. Vincent de Paul Commissary and Food for Families and Seniors in New Orleans. Sister Doris was also Assistant in the Revenue Integrity Department for the Seton Healthcare Network in Austin, Texas. During her time in Waco, Texas she served as a volunteer at the Gospel Café and at Providence Health Center. In 2017, Sister Doris came to Seton Residence to serve in the Ministry of Prayer, where she served until the time of her death.
A Wake Service was held on December 8 and the Mass of Christian Burial on December 9, both in the Seton Residence Chapel with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Virginia (“Ginny”) Uding. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Stringfellow; her niece, Mary Kay Stringfellow; her nephew, Michael F. Stringfellow; her Sisters in Community; and many friends.
