A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Jacinta Reiter, D.C., was celebrated Jan. 4, 2013, at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville, Ind. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville. Sister Jacinta died on Jan. 1, 2013 at 85 years of age at the Daughters of Charity senior care residence, Seton Residence, in Evansville. Sister Jacinta had 56 years of vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Evansville, Ind., on November 19, 1927, Sister Jacinta was one of five children born to Joseph and Viola Anna (Kisselll) Reiter. Sister was named LaVerna Matilda Reiter at birth. She graduated from Central High School in Evansville in 1945 and worked for John Hancock Insurance Company before entering the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Mo., in 1956.
Sister Jacinta assisted in the St. Louis Province treasurer’s office from 1957 to 1960. From 1960 to 1967, Sister served in the business offices at St. Vincent Hospital in Los Angeles, Ca., DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., and St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, Ill.
After completing her Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences from Marillac College in St. Louis in 1971, Sister Jacinta served in parishes in Indianapolis (1971); Saginaw, Michigan (1971 to 1973); and Evansville (1973 to 1978). From 1978 to 1982, Sister was missioned to St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis., and while there obtained her certification in pastoral care. She then served at Allen Memorial Home in Mobile, Ala., from 1982 to 1983. From 1983 to 1990, Sister Jacinta served in pastoral care at Seton Manor in Evansville. In 1990, Sister returned again to Mobile for eight years to serve in pastoral care at Providence Hospital until she was assigned as the hospitality coordinator at Mater Dei Provincial House in Evansville in 1998. In August of 2002, Sisters was missioned to Seton Residence and began serving in the Ministry of Prayer.
Sister Jacinta is survived by her sister, Mary Alice Clem of Evansville, Ind., her brother Norman Reiter, of Evansville, Ind., many nieces and nephews, and her Sisters in Community.
