A private burial for Sister Mary Patricia Larabell, D.C., was held April 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville, Ind. A memorial liturgy will be held April 22 at 11 a.m. at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville.
Sister Mary Patricia died April 11, 2014, at 82 years of age at Seton Residence. In December of 2013, she celebrated 62 years of vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Chicago, Ill., on March 18, 1932, Sister Mary Patricia was one of four children born to Cedric and Marie (Beausejour) Larabell.
Sister Mary Patricia was a 1950 graduate of Redford High School in Detroit, Mich. She entered the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in Emmitsburg, Md., in 1951.
Sister Mary Patricia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences and education from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg in 1965, and her Master of Arts degree in human development and social work from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1972.
After initial formation, Sister Mary Patricia served as a House Mother at St. Mary’s Villa in Baltimore, Md., from 1953 to 1957. From 1957 to 1958, Sister Mary Patricia served as an elementary education teacher at St. Mary’s School in Troy, N.Y. She then served as a House Mother in several ministries, from 1958 to 1965 at St. Joseph Villa in Richmond, Va.; from 1965 to 1968 at Nazareth Home in Boston, Mass.; and from 1968 to 1981 at St. Vincent/Sarah Fischer Center in Farmington Hills, Mich. From 1981 to 1984, Sister Mary Patricia served as the director of Catholic Charities in Evansville. For the next 10 years, Sister returned to Farmington Hills and served as the administrator at St. Vincent/Sarah Fischer Center until 1994. From 1994 to 1995, she served as director of operations at St. Vincent DePaul Center in Chicago; and from 1995 to 2005 as the director of environmental services at Marillac Social Center in Chicago. From 2005 to 2010, Sister Mary Patricia volunteered at Marillac Social Center. Then, in 2010, Sister began serving in the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence in Evansville where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Mary Patricia is survived by her brother, Richard (Jo) Larabell of Appleton, Wis.; and her sister, Dorothy (Bill) McCready of Round Rock, Texas; many nieces and nephews; many friends; and her Sisters in Community.
