A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Alexis Paolozzi, D.C., was celebrated Jan. 13, 2015, at DePaul Chapel at St. Louise House in Albany. Burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. Sister Alexis died at 99 years of age Jan. 8 at St. Louise House.
Born June 18, 1915, in Utica, N.Y., Sister Alexis (baptized Eliza Marie) was one of 10 children born to Joseph Paolozzi and Philomena (Coletti) Paolozzi. She graduated from St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Md., in 1953, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Sister Alexis entered the Daughters of Charity in July 1935. She celebrated 79 years of vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in July 2014.
Sister Alexis’s ministry as a teacher took her to St. Joseph’s School in Baltimore, Md. (1936-1941); St. Paul’s School in Portsmouth, Va. (1941-1951); St. Dominic School in Baltimore (1951-1960); St. James School in Johnson City, N.Y. (1960-1965); and St. Charles, Pikesville, in Baltimore (1965-1969). Sister also taught at St. Mary’s School in Troy, N.Y., and served as her community’s local superior from 1969 to 1973. Sister Alexis was then missioned to St. John’s School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1973 to 1980. She then studied at Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis, Mo. (1980-1981). Sister returned to teaching at St. Ann’s School in Bridgeport, Conn., from 1981 to 1986, again serving as local superior. She spent her longest time at St. Peter’s House in Wilmington, Del., as Director of St. Peter’s Outreach Services from 1986 to 1999. Sister returned to Troy to serve as receptionist at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1999 to 2008. In 2008, Sister began her Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House in Albany, where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Alexis is survived by her many nieces and nephews and her Sisters in Community.
