Seven students graduated from the Proyecto Juan Diego Child Development program on May 26. Proyecto Juan Diego, a sponsored work of the Daughters of Charity Province of St. Louise in Brownsville, Tex., offers
education programs for adults as well as community programs. These include nutrition, GED, and citizenship classes as well as programs for the elderly. The mission of Proyecto Juan Diego is to empower low-income families to be healthy and self-sufficient through education programs, family activities, and preventative health services. Sister Phylis Peters (pictured on the right) is the Executive Director of the Center and Sisters Margaret Palmer and Mary Jean Tague serve there, too. The goal of the Child Development program is for the mothers to grow in parenting skills through different techniques by “Playing Activities” with their child(ren). At the end of the nine-week session, the mothers know how to better assist their child(ren) to grow and how to develop a deeper relationship with them. This program is provided to mothers with children 0-4 years of age
