A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Vincentia Goeb, D.C., was celebrated December 3, 2016, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Emmitsburg, Md. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Emmitsburg. Sister Vincentia died November 29, 2016, at Villa St. Michael in Emmitsburg. She was 85 years of age and 66 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Astoria, N.Y., on September 14, 1931, Sister Vincentia (baptized Frances) was the first of three children born to Theodore and Mary (Neary) Goeb. Sister entered the Daughters of Charity in December of 1949.
Sister Vincentia earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, in 1962. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education (Administration and Supervision) from Boston College, Boston, Mass., in 1973.
Following initial formation, Sister Vincentia served as a Group Worker at Seton Villa in Wilmington, Del., (1951 to 1952). She taught at St. Dominic School in Baltimore, Md., (1952 to 1955); St. Catherine Labouré School in Wheaton, Md., (1955 to 1961); and St. Joseph High School in Petersburg, Va., (1962 to 1963). Sister Vincentia then served as Principal at Our Lady of Peace School in Canton, Ohio, (1963 to 1968; during which time Sister served as the Local Community Superior); and at Holy Cross Regional School in Lynchburg, Va., (1968 to 1974; during which time Sister served as the Local Community Superior). Sister then served at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, Md., where she ministered as Assistant Principal (1974 to 1975) and as Principal (1975 to 1980). Sister Vincentia then returned to Emmitsburg to serve as Education Councillor for the former Southeast Province (1980 to 1989; during which time Sister served as the Local Community Superior at Immaculata, 1981 to 1983). Sister then returned to Elizabeth Seton High School where she served as Assistant Principal (1989 to 1992; during which time Sister served as the Local Community Superior) and President (1992 to 1999). Sister ministered as Administrator of St. Joseph Provincial House in Emmitsburg (1999 to 2005); she then served as Director of Heritage Ministries in Emmitsburg (2005 to 2009). In 2009, Sister began ministering in Mission Integration at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Vincentia was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Goeb. Sister is survived by her brother, Thomas Goeb of Baltimore, Md.; cousins; friends; and her Sisters in Community.
