A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Andrea Lacoste, D.C. was celebrated December 2, 2017, at the Seton Residence Chapel in Evansville, Ind.; burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Evansville. Sister Andrea died November 29, 2017, at Seton Residence in Evansville. She was 93 years of age and 73 years of vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in New Orleans, La., on October 29, 1924, Sister Andrea (baptized Loretto André) was one of four children born to André Pierre and Loretta (Lazarre) Lacoste. She graduated from Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans in 1941 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Mo., in January 1944. Sister Andrea earned her Diploma as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill., in 1947. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill., in 1951; she completed her Master of Arts Degree in Adult and Hospital Education at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in 1973.
Following initial formation, Sister Andrea was missioned to serve as Operating Room and Emergency Room Supervisor at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, (1948 to 1952); at St. Margaret Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., (1952 to 1957); at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, (1957 to 1961); at Providence Hospital in Waco, Tex., (1961 to 1966); and at St. Joseph Hospital, St. Joseph, Mo., (1966 to 1969). From 1969 to 1973, Sister Andrea served in Employee Health at St. Vincent’s Psychiatric Hospital, St. Louis, Mo., (1969 to 1973). She next served as Education Coordinator at DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, Mo., (1973 to 1975). Sister Andrea then was missioned to Texas where she served as Director of Education at Seton Medical Center, Austin, (1975 to 1979). From 1979 to 1981, Sister served at the former Marillac Provincial House in St. Louis, Mo., working on a Research Project. Sister then served in many Management Analysis and Operations roles at St. Paul Medical Center, Dallas, (1981 to 1998). In 1998, Sister Andrea became a Volunteer in the Patient Care Department St. Paul Medical Center, (1998 to 2001). In November 2001, Sister joined the Ministry of Prayer at Malta Square Residence in New Orleans. She continued in the Ministry of Prayer at the Eldon Residence in St. Louis, 2006 to 2009. In August 2009, Sister joined the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence, Evansville, where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Andrea served on many Hospital Boards of Directors and Health Care Committees, She served as Chair of the Board at St. Paul Medical Center, Dallas, (1979 to 1988).
Sister Andrea was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sister Marguerite Lacoste, O.Carm; and her brothers, Emile Joseph Lacoste, and Brother André Lacoste, F.S.C. Sister is survived by her nieces; her Sisters in Community; and many friends.
