A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Sister Dorothea Moll, D.C., on May 29 at The Sarah Community’s Marian Chapel in Bridgeton, Mo. Burial was held May 30 at Marillac Cemetery in Normandy, Mo. Sister Dorothea died May 23, 2018. Sister was 74 years of age and she celebrated 53 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity in September 2017.
Sister Dorothea was born August 29, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. Baptized Susan Frances, Sister Dorothea was one of five children born to Theodore D. and Agnes (Ballmann) Moll. Sister Dorothea was a 1961 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School in St. Louis. Sister entered the Community of Daughters of Charity in September 1964.
Sister Dorothea earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 1969; and she earned her Master of Social Work Degree from Saint Louis University, St. Louis, Mo., in 1995.
After completing her initial formation, Sister Dorothea was missioned to St. Ann School, Dallas, Tex., (1966 to 1967); following two years as a student, Sister Dorothea was missioned to DePaul Hospital on North Kingshighway in St. Louis where she served in the business office, (1969 to 1970) and as the Assistant Controller, (1970 to 1974). Sister next served in Fiscal Affairs at Seton Hospital, Austin, Tex., (1974 to 1975). She next ministered as the Controller’s Assistant at Seton Medical Center, Austin, (1975 to 1977). Sister was missioned to Hotel Dieu Medical Center, El Paso, Tex., to serve as part of a special project team, (January 1977 to May 1977). She then was appointed Accountant at Marillac Center, Kansas City, Mo., (1977 to 1981). Sister continued as Accountant at Providence Hospital, Waco, Tex., (1981 to 1983). She next served in Development and Public Relations at Seton Center, Kansas City, (1983 to 1986). Sister’s next mission was as Assistant Director of the Clinic at St. Phillip Health Center and Clinic, San Antonio, Tex., (1986 to 1987). She then served as the Chief Financial Officer for Daughters of Charity Services of San Antonio, (1987 to 1989). Missioned to St. Louis, Sister ministered at Guardian Angel Settlement Association, (1989 to 1990). Sister then pursued her Master’s in Social Work while serving at St. Patrick Center in St. Louis, (1990 to 1995). During her years at St. Patrick Center, Sister coordinated the Center’s mobile outreach. Once her MSW was complete, Sister Dorothea was appointed Manager of Mobile Outreach for St. Patrick’s, (1995 to 1996). She next served as Assistant Administrator of the Rosati Stabilization Center, St. Louis, (1996 to 1997). Sister then ministered as Treatment Services Director at Marian Hall Residential Care, St. Louis, (1997 to 2000). After time for personal growth, Sister was missioned to Austin to serve as a Social Worker for Children and Adolescents at Shoal Creek Hospital/Seton Healthcare, (2002 to 2010). She served in Social Ministry at Daughters of Charity Services of Arkansas in Dumas and Gould (2010 to 2017). In late 2017, Sister Dorothea entered the Ministry of Prayer first at her residence in Gould, then at Seton Residence in Evansville, Ind., and finally at The Sarah Community in Bridgeton, Mo., where she served until the time of her death.
Sister Dorothea served on many boards of directors including DePaul Hospital, St. Louis; Providence Healthcare, Waco; and Seton Medical Center, Austin. She was an avid gardener and candle maker.
Sister Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, James Moll and Ted Moll. She is survived by her brother, John Moll (Betty), of Columbia, Ill.; her sister, Mary Anne Keller of Fenton, Mo.; her sisters-in-law, Sandra Moll and Carolyn Moll both of St. Louis; nieces and nephews; and her Sisters in Community.
