A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Diane Louttit, D.C., was celebrated September 17, 2018, at DePaul House Chapel, Albany, N.Y.; burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. Sister Diane died at St. Louise House on September 13, 2018. Sister was 72 years of age and 45 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Endicott, N.Y., April 23, 1946, Sister Diane (baptized Diane Marie) was one of two children born to Charles and Geraldine (Fudge) Louttit. Sister Diane graduated from Seton Catholic High School, Endicott, in 1964. She completed her Associate of Arts Degree at Broome Technical Community College, Binghamton, N.Y., in 1967; her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from State University of New York, Brockport, N.Y., in 1969; and her Concentration in Reading Certification at State University of New York, Cortland, N.Y., in 1972.
Sister Dianne entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity in April 1973 from St. Ambrose Church, Endicott. Following initial formation, Sister Diane taught at St. Peter Cathedral School, Wilmington, Del., (1974 to 1978); St. Ann’s School, Bridgeport, Conn., (1978 to 1981); again at St. Peter Cathedral School, Wilmington, (1981 to 1988); and at Cathedral School, Syracuse, N.Y., (1988 to 1990). Sister Diane then served as Chaplain, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, N.Y., (1990 to 1992). Missioned next to Buffalo, N.Y., Sister served at Sisters Hospital, (1992 to 2003; during this time, Sister served as the Local Community Superior, 1994 to 2003). Sister Diane was next missioned to Rosalie Rendu House in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to serve as Chaplain at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston, N.Y., (2003 to 2010; during this time, Sister served as Local Community Superior 2007 to 2010). Sister served as a Chaplain at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Binghamton, (2010 to 2016; during this time, Sister served as the Local Community Superior). Sister Diane joined the Ministry of Prayer at St. Louise House, Albany, in December 2016; she served there until the time of her death.
Many Daughters recall Sister Diane’s great sense of humor and ability to “ad-lib” and move forward no matter what the situation.
Sister Diane was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Ann Mauriello. She is survived by her nephew, Anthony (Tony), and his wife, Coleen Mauriello; her nieces, Amelia and Ava Mauriello; her nephews, John Michael Foley and Charles Foley; her many friends especially Sister Katie McNamara, O.C.S.O; and Daughters of Charity Sister Companions at St. Louis House, Albany.
