In Memoriam: Sister Betty Keppers, D.C.

Sister Betty (Elizabeth Jane) Keppers died at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana, on May 5, 2025. Sister Betty was born on January 24, 1932, in St. Cloud, Minnesota and was one of five children of Joseph Benedict and Magdalena (Bernard) Keppers. Sister graduated from Sauk Rapids Public High School in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota in 1949 and received a B.S. in Business Education and Political Science from St. Cloud State College in 1953. She entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1956.

After initial formation, Sister Betty served as a Business Education teacher and Guidance Counselor at St. Stephen High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and at St. Vincent High School in San Francisco, California. She returned to St Louis to serve as a Computer Programmer at DCSSA-DC Shared Services Association. Her next assignments were in Parish Ministry at St. Patrick Parish and Holy Spirit Parish in North Platte, Nebraska. After studying Pastoral Care at St. John Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, she served as Acting Director of Pastoral Care at Providence Health Care Center in Waco, Texas. She then returned to St. Louis, Missouri to serve as Archivist Assistant and Fund Development Computer Operator at Marillac Provincialate and later at Guardian Angel Settlement. In 2003, Sister Betty began to serve in the Ministry of Prayer both at The Sarah Community in St. Louis and then at Seton Residence in Evansville, until the time of her death.

On Tuesday, May 13, the Wake Service and the Mass of Christian Burial were held in Seton Chapel. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Bernadine Huschle and Margaret Orr and her brothers Bernard and Baby Keppers, and is survived by loving family members, many friends and her Sisters in Community.
