Sister Laureana (Virginia) Perez died at Seton Residence on August 4, 2026. Sister was born on January 16, 1934 in Puerto Rico and is one of six children of Laureana (Ruiz) and Ernesto Perez. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayaguez in 1951 and received a B.S. in Math from the University of Puerto Rico in 1955 and a Master’s degree in Ministry from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1981. She entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in January of 1957.
After initial formation, Sister Laureana served as a teacher at Our Lady of Talpa School in Los Angeles, California, Mount Carmel and Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and in Pastoral Ministry/CCD in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and in Texas in San Antonio, Alpine, Alamo, Crane and Stanton. She then studied at the School of Applied Theology in Berkeley, California and served as the Area Coordinator of Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Springfield/Cape Girardeau in Springfield, Missouri and as Program Assistant in the Daughters of Charity Services in San Antonio, Texas until 2014 when she came to Seton Residence to serve in the Ministry of Prayer.
A Wake Service was held on Thursday, August 6, in the Seton Residence Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial took place, August 7, in the Seton Chapel. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Manual and Victor Perez and her sisters Aurelia Cordero and Josefa Castra Perez and she is survived by her sister Felipa Perez, other loving family members, many friends and her Sisters in community.
