Sister Louise (baptized Margaret Mary) Scheessele died June 25, 2020 at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. Sister Louise was born on August 16, 1923 in Spencer County, Indiana and was one of nine children of William and Mary (Forler) Scheessele. She graduated from Luce Township High School in Richland, Indiana in 1941 and St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Evansville in 1944 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in March 1945. Sister also earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois in 1950 and her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Service Administration from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1954.
After initial formation in St. Louis, Sister Louise served in the health care ministry as a Nurse and Director of Nursing Service in Chicago, Illinois, Montgomery, Alabama, St. Louis, Missouri and Los Angeles, California. In 1965, she assumed the duties of Administrator in hospitals in San Francisco, California, El Paso and Dallas, Texas, and Loup City, Nebraska until 1987. During this period, she was also a Nursing Instructor at Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota for five years. From 1987 to 1990, Sister served as the CEO of Daughters of Charity Services of San Antonio, Texas. In the following years, Sister Louise was involved in a variety of ministries including Docent at the Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, Maryland; Director of Residential Care at the former Marillac Provincial House Infirmary in Normandy, Missouri; in service to the Senior Sisters at Anna House in Bridgeton, Missouri; and Director, and, later, volunteer at the Caritas Center in Normandy until 2007 when she joined the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence in Evansville.
Sister Louise was buried in St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wilfred, Frederick, Albert, Basil, and Paul Scheessele; and her sisters, Teresa Scheessele and Cecilia Coudret. She is survived by her sister, Sister Martha Scheessele (Daughters of St. Mary of Providence); nieces and nephews; her Sisters in Community; and many friends.
