Sister Marillac (Mildred Elizabeth) Grabinski died on October 30, 2023, at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. Sister was born on December 9, 1928 in Chicago and was one of four children of Walter and Sophia (Biedka) Grabinski. She graduated from Good Counsel High School in Chicago in 1947 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1951. She received her B.A. degree in History from Marillac College in St. Louis.
After initial formation, Sister Marillac was sent to several schools to serve as an elementary teacher: St Vincent School, Perryville, Missouri (1952-1956), St. Vincent School, Mobile, Alabama (1956-1960); St. Catherine Labouré School, St. Louis (1960-1963); Cosgriff Memorial School, Salt Lake City, Utah (1963-1969); St. Barnabas School, Birmingham, Alabama (1969-1972); and St. Patrick School, LaSalle, Illinois (1972-1977).
Sister Marillac served as a Docent at Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, Maryland (1977-1978) and as a Parish Visitor at St. Mary Parish in Huntingburg, Indiana (1978-1980); then, she returned to teaching at St. Francis de Sales School in Lake Zurich, Illinois in 1980. Sister worked in Social Services at Marillac Social Center in Chicago (1982-1983) and then was sent to Effingham, Illinois as a Parish Visitor for Catholic Charities (1983-1985). She returned to Marillac Social Center in Chicago (1986-1989), then served in Elderly Outreach at St. Joseph Health Center and Hospital in Chicago (1989-1994) and at St. Margaret Services in Montgomery, Alabama (1994-2001). Sister Marillac was then missioned to Detroit and Southfield, Michigan to serve as a Community Outreach Worker at St. Christine Parish and Providence Pavilion (2001-2013). In 2013, Sister Marillac was missioned to Seton Residence where she entered the Ministry of Prayer; a ministry which she served in until the time of her death.
A Wake Service was held on November 5 in the Seton Residence Chapel and the Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on November 6 in the Seton Chapel, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Eugene, Walter and Richard Grabinski and she is survived by loving family members, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
