In Memoriam: Sister Mary Satala, D.C.

Sister Mary (Mary Margaret) Satala died at Seton Residence on June 23, 2026. Sister was born on July 12, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois and was one of two children of Roman and Antoinette Agnes (Hudak) Satala. She graduated from Good Counsel High School in 1953 and received her RN in Nursing from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Chicago before entering the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1960.

After initial formation, Sister Mary served as a nurse at DePaul Hospital in New Orleans, DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, St. Mary Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana, Providence School of Nursing in Mobile, Alabama, St. Joseph Hospital and Health Center in Chicago, St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services and St. Vincent New Hope in Indianapolis, and St. Vincent International Service in Warsaw, Poland. Sister received a MA in Spirituality and Counseling from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and a Doctorate of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Clinical Counseling from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis. Sister also served as Postulant Directress for the Daughters of Charity in Evansville, Indiana and as a Mental Health Counselor at St. Vincent Stress Center in Indianapolis until 2014 when she came to Seton Residence to serve in the Ministry of Prayer.

A Wake Service was held on Thursday, June 25 and the Mass of Christian Burial took place the following day, June 26, both services held in the Seton Chapel. Burial was at St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister was preceded in death by her parents and her brother George Satala, and she is survived by loving family members, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
