Sister Mary Therese (Frances Therese) Martin died on November 5, 2023 at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. Sister was born on March 10, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois and was one of six children of William H. and Alice Frances (Cosgrove) Martin. Sister graduated from Lourdes High School in Chicago in 1951 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, Missouri in 1954.
After initial formation, Sister Mary Therese was sent to teach at St. Theresa School in New Orleans, Louisiana. She then served as a bookkeeper at Guardian Angel Settlement in St. Louis. Sister received a B.A. in Social Science at Marillac College in St. Louis and an MSW in Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She served as an Outreach Worker at St. Vincent’s Day Care Center in Evansville, Indiana.
After several months in this same position at St. John’s Mission in Charleston, Mississippi, Sister was missioned to St. Vincent Sarah Fisher Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan to serve as a Social Worker. She then went to St. Mary’s Home in Mobile, Alabama and then returned to Evansville as a Social Worker at St. Vincent’s Day Care Center. During this time, she took the position of Coordinator of Outreach Services for the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Evansville. For the next three years she served as Parish Minister at St. Mary’s Parish in Huntingburg, Indiana and then was sent to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis as an Outreach Worker. In 2001, Sister Mary Therese came to Seton Residence and served in the Ministry of Prayer until the time of her death.
A Wake Service was held on November 10 and the Mass of Christian Burial took place celebrated on November 11 in the Seton Chapel, with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bill, James and Robert Martin, her sisters Betty McCarthy and Margie Rachwell and she is survived by nieces and nephews, other loving family members, her Sisters in Community and many friends.
