A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Renée Poquet, D.C., was held Aug. 25, 2015, at DePaul Chapel in Albany, N.Y. Burial followed at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands, N.Y. Sister died Aug. 18, 2015, at St. Louise House in Albany. She was 93 years of age and 68 years vocation.
Born in Lyon, France, Feb. 4, 1922, Sister Renée was the daughter of Frederic and Josette Eugénie Poquet. She was baptized Renée Marie. She entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in April 1947.
Following initial formation, Sister Renée’s first mission was in Marseille, France, at the school known as La Petite Ouvre for the daughters of working class families (1948–1949). Sister then was missioned to the Purpan Hospital (Hôpital Purpan) in Toulouse, France, where she served from 1949 to 1960. In 1960, Sister Renée joined the foreign missions to Canada. She was sent to Coaticook Hospital in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada. Sister served in Coaticook for 41 years. In addition to her service at the hospital, Sister served as parish secretary at the Church of St. John Evangeliste. Sister Renée also served as the councillor/treasurer of the Region of Canada.
In 2001, Sister Renée was missioned to Montreal. In 2007, Sister Renée joined the Ministry of Prayer in Albany. She lived there until the time of her death. Sister Renée is survived by her sister, Andrée, and her brother, Gabriel, both of France; and her Sisters in Community.
