A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Vivian David, D.C., was celebrated March 18, 2013, in the Chapel at Seton Residence in Evansville, Ind. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville.
Sister Vivian died March 16, 2013, at 88 years of age at Seton Residence in Evansville. In July of 2012, she celebrated 63 years vocation as a Daughter of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
Born in Mosinee, Wis., on Aug. 23, 1924, Sister Vivian was the daughter of Joseph A. David and Marvlin Cecilia (Sharky) David. She was one of four children. Sister was named Vivian Irene David at birth.
Sister Vivian graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., in 1942. She received her certification in nursing (R.N.) from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wis., in 1945; and she earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing education from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill., in 1953.
Sister Vivian entered the Community of the Daughters of Charity in March of 1949. After her initial formation, Sister Vivian began a life of ministry in health care. She served as a nurse supervisor at St. Joseph Health Centers and Hospital in Chicago, Ill. (1950 – 1952); at St. Joseph Hospital in Alton, Ill. (1952 to 1953 and 1957 to 1966); at St. Vincent Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. (1953 to 1957); and at Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas (1966 to 1969). Sister Vivian served as a nurse at Providence Hospital and Medical Center in Southfield, Mich. (1969 to 1973); and at Seton Residence in Evansville (1973 to 1979). In 1982, Sister Vivian began to minister in pastoral care. First, she served at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. (1979 to 1982), then at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services in Indianapolis, Ind. (1982 to 1988). From 1988 to 1990, Sister Vivian served as a clerk in medical records at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Services in Indianapolis. In 1990, Sister returned to Evansville to minister as a pastoral care associate until 1999. In 1999, Sister Vivian joined the Ministry of Prayer at Seton Residence in Evansville.
Sister Vivian is survived by her sister, Marie Stoner of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; many nieces and nephews; and her Sisters in Community.
