Sister Lucretia (Frances Caroline) Burns died on June 25, 2023 at Seton Residence in Evansville, Indiana. Sister Lucretia was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 18, 1935 and was one of four children of John Cunningham and Angela Marie (Sidote) Burns. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1952 and entered the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis.
After initial formation, Sister Lucretia served as a teacher at Holy Trinity School (1954-1961) and St. Ann School (1965-1969) in Dallas, Texas; St. Boniface School in Perryville, Missouri (1961-1962), St. Louise de Marillac School (1962-1965), St. Catherine Labouré School (1969-1973) and Central Catholic Community School (1980-1983) in St. Louis, DePaul Community Development Center in Stamps, Arkansas (1992-1994), Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota (1973-1974) and at St. Stephen School in New Orleans (1978-1980). Sister also served as Principal of St. Vincent Grade School in Keokuk, Iowa (1974-1978) and in Adult Education GED for many years (St. Louis [1994-1998], San Antonio, [1999-2013], and Mobile, Alabama [2013-2016]). She was also Director of Learning Clubs of S.W. Arkansas (1991-1992) and served as Coordinator of Volunteers for the Elderly Food Program in New Orleans (1986-1989 and 1999). Sister assisted with religious education classes at St. Vincent de Paul School in Mobile, Alabama (2016-2017) before coming to Seton Residence to enter the Ministry of Prayer, where she served until the time of her death.
A Wake Service was held on Thursday, June 29, in the Seton Residence Chapel followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial took place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Sister was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John and Dr. Albert Burns; and her sister, Mary Josephine Rappold. She is survived by her sister, Agnes Jean Bittner; nieces and nephews; many friends; and her Sisters in community.
